Thank you for your ministry.

My church was split and almost all the members taken away by the pastor. The pastor started another church three blocks away.

After a short while most of the members left his church and got scattered all over the community but few returned to my church. This church has struggled to increase for the last 12 years. Might you have some suggestions and ideas on how to revitalize such a church? What about a dying church without a pastor? Do they need to wait for a pastor to begin the process of replanting? Are there steps they can take during the interim? If you are planning to revitalize the church then you need a pastor with a vision. If you are looking to replant then I would recommend that you find a large church in your area and speak with the staff there about the possibility of either absorbing the church and making it one of the campuses of that church or to dissolve it and your members join that church.

If you replant it is best not to have a pastor as the church you absorb with will be able to provide the staff and pastors necessary to replant that church. Could someone explain the difference for me between a church replant and church revitalization? Additionally, we say every replant was a revitalization but not every revitalization is a replant. Remember, the first church began with 12 and continued to grow under God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.

Today more than ever, we need the life changing Word of God. It is our job to tell them. They need a local Body of Christ. All of us have been called and gifted.

Great session, guys. The eight characteristics certainly ought to be considered in every replant and revitalize situation. Specifically, my ears always perk up when I hear dialogue about vision—your first characteristic. Second, I would say we must remember that the source of vision is God, and not the pastor. Eight Characteristics of an Effective Church Replanter - Revitalize & Replant #

The first is that the church gets mad and looks for someone to blame while wanting to hang on a little longer in hope of a miracle. Those stiff backs stand up and defy someone to help them unless they do it their way which currently is not working. The second and the best way is to deed over the church and its facilities to an association which can put either church planters in place or a Church Revitalizer.

It is a best practice to have a closing of the church and deeding the property over to the association service which allows for a dignified closure and transisition from rapidly declining church to new church revitalization effort. There are some groups which will place a church planter into the mix and want you to deed your facilities over to a national agency, which just might later sell it to recoupe its cost of investing in your church for three years.
