On an outing to Newgate market with her cousins, she becomes separated from them and is lured into an alley by a gang of ruffians. She is saved by a tall, gallant stranger who escorts her safely home. Handsome, heroic and aristocratic, Henry Kingsman seems the ideal match for her. But then she learns that Henry is in fact the Fourth Earl of Berwick, a notorious rake from a dark and dissolute family.
He is rumoured to deal with smugglers, and his ancestry riddled with incest, insanity and murder. Good adventure, and wonderful romance. There was a bit too much detail on the honeymoon. Kind of moved this from a clean romance, to a "not so clean" romance. There was a bit of language. Everything else was OK. I was sad the author ruined a clean book by going into so much detail during the "Love scene". Good thing there was only one. Beth falls for a man with a really scary reputation. His ancestors raped, tortured, and murdered. Is she safe with him, or will she be the next victim?
Several pa Good adventure, and wonderful romance. Several parts were too hokey to believe. Overall, the story was adventurous, and a fun story. But, the ending was very obvious, and the "bad guy" was clear from the beginning. No surprise there. Overall, I would only give this book 3 stars.
I wouldnt let my teen daughter read it only because of the one scene. Sep 24, Kay Bolton rated it liked it Shelves: kindle-downloads. Having read the Time Crystal by Ethan, I was really looking forward to this one. However, whilst it was an okay read, it wasn't as interesting and well paced as his other offering.
The Curse of the Kingsmans Omnibus - Books 1-3
Obviously, it's purely an historical novel, no time travel. Then again, it could have probably done with a bit to pep it up! I would read others in the series, but just to see if the writing in any way lives up to the enjoyment of the Time Crystal. From me, a disappointed 3 stars due to the lack lustre performance, but r Having read the Time Crystal by Ethan, I was really looking forward to this one. From me, a disappointed 3 stars due to the lack lustre performance, but read it yourself and give it a fair hearing.
Apr 24, Kristin King rated it really liked it. This is one of those historical romances that may stray from history but does so in the interest of improving plot. It takes on the air perhaps of the medieval. I liked it though. The oppressed heroine, the lecherous "gentleman", the good hearted rake who can't live down a bad family name. I really only took issue with the HEAT level of an otherwise clean read. As other reviewers have noted, the honeymoon was described in sexually graphic ways inconsistent with the rest of the writing. Since it This is one of those historical romances that may stray from history but does so in the interest of improving plot.
Since it was only one scene, it was easy to skip over. The follow up releases are billed as "more erotic" so that gives you a hint if you read that far into the description.

This was sort of ok. The characters really could've had more depth to them including their dialogue which seemed very simple. I understand that maybe the author was trying to be clean with the romance, but this seemed WAY to clean almost a little ridiculous. I feel like there could've been so much more to this story then what was written. Apr 01, Jayne dArcy rated it liked it. This was a good story with some very good characters.
What continually annoyed me was that it all felt hurried; as if the author wanted to get to a certain scene. The main characters fell in love after one meeting, the heroine was condemned by her family nearly overnight, smugglers were found, and everyone had a quick and perfect happily ever after while having tea. This had the distinct taste of someone writing fanfiction just to get to the good parts. Jul 01, Veronica Hanks rated it liked it. Curse of the Kingsmans The two main characters Beth and Henry fall in love but Beth's father does not let Henry court her. Beth arranges to see Henry in secret.
Her father finds out and beat her. The two decide to elope. They move to Henry's castle. Beth discovers a hidden smugglers operation and thinks Henry is involved. This book kept my attention but it is not one that would keep me up late at night as other historical romance novels have. Nov 16, Lisa C. The characters were flat and one dimensional. There was no emotion between the main characters. Rife with child and spousal abuse, the hero was kind of wimpy and definitely had no clue as to what was going on even under his own feet literally.
The heroine caused way too much trouble under the guise of trying to ferret out her husband's lies. Silly vernacular, definitely not worth the time it took to read it. Sep 13, Lucy why do I bother to read chicklit rated it it was ok. One of the things I enjoyed most about this novel was Beth Darney's character and how she defies her parents in order to marry the controversial Earl of Berwick. And when we think the novel is going to develop in one way the author surprises us with a bit is suspense and a nice ending. Very appealing! Just the sort of romp one can really appreciate! Thoroughly enjoyed this complete saga.
Well written and very readable. Good characterization and disarmingly charming. Next one needs to be pretty darn good to live up to it! Jun 14, June Centeio rated it really liked it.

Nov 22, sheila hamblin rated it liked it. Pretty decent The story bogs down on occasion but not enough to stop reading. I knew who the bad female was but the smuggler did surprise me.
I enjoyed this story. Feb 09, Kelly rated it it was ok. Characters were way to whiny and insipid! Jul 11, Gita Sturtevant rated it it was amazing. Great I could not put this book down. Better than television exciting clever I enjoyed the whole package. Thanks Amazon.
